Two executives who saved their companies. Both full of personality. Both brilliant. One died a hero. The other lived long enough to become a villain. Who's your favorite?

Sergio all the way.

Also, calling Nissan saved is a bit much....

Nissan was nearly bankrupt in 1999. Carlos took over the company. In less than a decade, together with Renault, they cracked top five auto groups. Right up there, with Toyota, VW, GM and Ford.

The team who betrayed Carlos,  also betrayed Nissan.

Sergio was more fun, in a "I can't believe there hasn't been an HR complaint, yet" kind of way, with all his nice hug vs bad hug talk.

I mean, if I gathered enough failing businesses under one brand, I could make the top 5 of that industry too. Doesn’t change the fact that they were still failing.

At best, Carlos is the equivalent of putting someone in a medically induced coma.

Sergio for sure, he allowed all kinds of performance machines to flourish under his helm and while certainly not his direct doing , with the likes of Ralph Gilles running SRT, there was certainly a mainstream market for American muscle, it was a refreshing change for Chrysler.

Carlos has been known for ensuring the proliferation of the CVT throughout Nissan, yay.

BTW, I heard the CVT will be standard on the next GT-R....if you hadn’t heard.

The Renault Nissan Alliance enjoyed many years of success thanks to him. He also approved Renault’s return to F1 in the Alonso era. And ensured the return of the Z and GT-R. After he stopped directing the business on product daily basis, the executives he appointed screwed up Nissan(unfortunately) , big time. Of course they went after the Chairman to cover up their screwups. They are continuing to screw up by drastically diminishing Nissan’s presence in key markets, like Europe or Australia.

Only one of them earned a hug from Alan Mulally and it wasn’t Carlos.

Is it a question? Carlos is eating and drinking and enjoying life in his native country, after beating the Japanese in a very satisfying way. He won at the game of life.

Sergio was a DNF

And, yeah, they both ran their companies into cost-reduced oblivion.

I look at the cars FCA is producing right now and the stuff Nissan is peddling, and to me it’s a no brainer to pick Mergio.  I mean Sergio.

Even the Nissans are not that bad here in Europe, for example we have the new Juke while you have the bland Kicks and CVT is never being the only available transmission ; for example the Qashqai (Rogue Sport) here comes with a manual or DCT with the gas engines and a choice between a manual, DCT or CVT on the diesels .

Actually...in the context of things...Nissan is not doing too badly down here in Oz. Of course, they are slightly distracted by the continued rise of Mitsubishi and the back of house merger in operations that is happening here as a result of Mitsubishi's inclusion in the Alliance.

What’s more interesting than either of these two individuals is the fact that, as a result of their shenanigans, a very very significant part of the international auto motive industry is now (technically)  French...
